Dumbo the flying elephant in magic kingdom is a carousel type ride. This magic kingdom attraction is present in the fantasyland of all the five Disney theme parks. The first Dumbo the flying elephant ride was opened in the year 1955 and Dumbo the flying elephant in magic kingdom was opened in the year 1971.
The inspiration for creating this ride was obtained from an animated movie that came in the year 1941. This carousel ride is a counter clockwise ride and the passenger is provided a joy stick to control the up and own movement of the armature. Sixteen dumbos are present in the ride and they are held with the armatures from a top canopy. Initially the elephants were painted pink as the drunken elephants were represented in pink color in the animated movie.
Walt Disney did not want to include such things in the theme park of Disney magic kingdom and made the workers to paint it grey.
Initially only ten elephants were designed. But after an accident involving a break, sixteen elephants were used for the ride. One Dumbo the flying elephant ride is painted gold to mark the park’s fiftieth anniversary. In 2009, a meeting conducted for the development and renovation of Disney magic kingdom discussed the introduction of a circus in the Dumbo area.
Now the design is developed in such a way that there are 2 Dumbo the flying elephant rides under a big canopy and a circus. The passengers with the Dumbo the flying elephant tickets while waiting in the line for their turn can interact and see the circus. There are also small games included in the Dumbo area with the area being made double the size.
